2026 Cold Hawaii PWA Youth World Cup - Update 2
Anton Richter, Emma Miron, as well as Peter, Anton and Trine Gobisch took the top spots in the Wave discipline
Today marks the official end of the Youth World Cup in Klitmøller, and all results have been finalized since Sunday. After a week of racing, the wave discipline took center stage over the weekend for the 16 girls and boys competing there.
A southwesterly wind of 7 Beaufort swept across the mussel reef off Klitmøller on Saturday, and two heats were held in all age groups.
With two wins each, Anton Richter (G-6), Emma Miron (G-508), and Trine Gobisch (GER-804) laid a solid foundation for the final day, when the wind was expected to pick up even more. In the other age groups, the results were more evenly matched, which made the rest of the contest exciting.
On Sunday, the wind was blowing hard from the west at a good 8 Beaufort. However, before the wave discipline would be decided in the third and final round in Hanstholm, the final fin slalom races were held on the fjord off Thisted.
There, the previous leaders - Tycho Smits (U21 Boys, NB-1111), Mika Henning (U17 Boys, GER-64), Kit de Jong (U17 Girls, NB-92) and Julien Blom (U15 Boys, NB-48) - also secured the titles at this stop on the World Cup Tour.
The results in the foiling events had already been decided by Friday evening, with Tycho Smits (U21 Boys), Mika Henning (U17 Boys) and Kit de Jong (U21 Girls) also claiming overall victory in those categories.
The action continued on Sunday afternoon in Hanstholm: By then, the storm had really done its job, pushing huge waves toward the spot known as “Middles,” east of the Hanstholm fish factory. The waves were already as tall as a mast for adults - and, accordingly, one and a half times that height for the U15 boys.
No matter - they rigged up their 2.8s and headed out into the monster surf. Anton Gobisch secured the overall U15 victory with his win over Liam Calo in this heat.
His sister Trine finished third in her heat behind Bobbi-Lynn de Jong and Frida Miron, but won the U18 title in Cold Hawaii based on the combined results of all three heats.
In the U21 Girls division, Emma Miron also took first place in the third heat in her head-to-head matchup against Helena Lale, thereby securing first place at the Junior World Cup in Denmark.
Things got exciting in the U18 Boys division. Peter Gobisch kicked off his heat with a frontloop over the first wave, won the heat ahead of Bjørn Olesen, and, based on the total points, also took the overall title.
The best action was then on display in the final run of the U21 Boys. Anton Richter didn’t miss a beat with two extremely high jumps - a backloop and a stalled forward - winning the Middles heat ahead of Leon Maethner and thus also the overall standings for the event. Overall, Leon Maethner took second place ahead of Arne Jörn.
Once again, the region known as “Cold Hawaii” delivered, even though it got pretty wet from above at times. Since September 14, there have been enough winds for races every day, culminating in a spectacular finale in Hanstholm - one that even the adult pros on the World Tour would surely have loved to be a part of.
