Amado Vrieswijk also dominates the fin slalom

At the California Windsurf Cup, it’s not just the foilers competing as part of the IFCA European Championships; fin slalom is also on the regatta schedule. And that turned out to be a good thing on Saturday, as strong winds from the WNW allowed for two thrilling slalom race rounds.

And once again, Amado Vrieswijk (NB-20) proved that he’s always a force to be reckoned with, whether he’s riding a fin or a foil. The surfer from Bonaire won both heats and, as a result, leads the overall standings with 1.4 points.

It’s a tight race among the contenders. With 8.0 points, Tycho Smits (NB-1111) is in second place. Just one point behind him, a trio of riders — Vincent Langer (GER-1), Alexis Mathis (FRA-997) and Thijs Hanemaaijer (NED-107) — are tied for third with 9.0 points. In the tiebreaker, Langer comes out ahead of Mathis and Hanemaaijer.

The forecast calls for very good wind once again on the final day. The wind forecast promises conditions suitable for both the foiling and fin slalom disciplines. Ideally, races can still be held in both disciplines.

This means the decision on the European Championship title in windsurf foiling has been postponed until the final day. Changes in the standings are also still possible in the battle for victory in the fin slalom discipline.

Only in the women's division does the championship race seem to be all but decided. There, Slovenian Lina Erzen (SLO-51) is dominating the IFCA Foiling European Championship with ten wins out of eleven races.
