Marc Paré wins the final in Wissant ahead of Philip Köster
Last week, a 4-star WWT/PWA event took place in France. From 12 to 20 September, 37 men and 11 women competed in the Wissant Wave Classic to earn points for the annual rankings.
The entry of Marc Paré and Philip Köster in particular made things exciting, as both were tied on points at the top of the World Championship standings ahead of the event. It was therefore essential to take part in every top-class contest on the tour, as even a result at a second-tier event can prove decisive in the end.
Following the opening round on 12 September, the final heats took place on the Saturday of the following week. And indeed, Marc and Philip found themselves in this decisive heat, alongside Morgan Noireaux and the impressive surfer Kilian Couedic.
Although Philip Köster scored the highest mark for a jump with a double forward, the Spaniard won the head-to-head with a combined score of 29.26 to 28.87 points, based on two waves and two jumps. Kilian Couedic came third ahead of Morgan Noireaux.
With this victory, Marc Paré now leads the overall tour standings with 24,500 points, with Philip Köster close behind on 23,300. Both will now travel to Sylt for their next clash, where the World Cup gets underway this coming weekend.
In the women’s event at Wissant, Sol Degrieck won ahead of Lisa Wermeister and Alice Arutkin; the 16-year-old Belgian thus remains in fourth place on the WWT/PWA Tour, which is currently led by Lina Erpenstein.
