It’s looking exciting. The penultimate Wave World Cup of the 2026 season has kicked off.

20 October 2026 – The excitement is building as the penultimate Wave World Cup of the 2026 season gets underway. As only the top four events per rider count towards the title race, there is still plenty that could change at the top of the standings. Furthermore, it is very difficult for the tour’s all-rounders to beat the extremely strong local riders at Hookipa.

Whilst the runner-up, Philip Köster, has so far competed in five scoring events, the third-placed rider, Marcilio Browne, has only three events in his tally.

After all, there is a gap of 4,840 points between Marc Paré Rico, who is in first place, and Marcilio. To put that into perspective: riders can earn 10,000 points for a win at a five-star event such as the Aloha Classic.

Bernd Roediger, who is currently in fourth place, will also want to have a say in the title race as the winner of the spring World Cup on Maui. He has only two three- and four-star events in his tally so far. With good placings on Maui and in Chile, he can win the tour without – and I mean this in a non-judgemental way – having scored a single jump whilst competing.

Bernd Roediger: "For me, I’ve never had more fun on tour. I haven’t done any events where I’ve felt I’m going to them just for points. To come out of that having this current ranking, it feels pretty good. It feels how it should feel. To follow your passion and get some results doing that is a pretty cool feeling. Who knows what will happen in the title race, but what got me to this point is just having fun with it."

The situation in the women’s rankings is even closer than in the men’s. The two Germans, Lina Erpenstein and Maria Behrens, top the world rankings. Lina is in the lead with 21,755 points, ahead of Maria Behrens, who has 20,320 points; Marine Hunter (20,240 points) and Sol Degrieck (19,255 points) occupy third and fourth places respectively.

Sarah-Quita Offringa is in fifth place with 18,500 points. Unlike the other top riders, however, she has only taken part in two ranking events. Sarah-Quita will not be competing in Maui, though. The windsurfing queen is scaling back her commitments. Pauline Katz and Svenja Chudoba will be competing for Switzerland.

Lina Erpenstein: "A world title has always been the dream and still is. Yet the title race is still very open with a lot of contenders, so I don’t even really feel like I’m leading. I feel less pressure than in the past years and feel more relaxed with my sailing and results."

The World Cup on Maui runs until 30 October.
