24 Hours of Windsurfing for a Good Cause

Bob van de Burgt completed this endurance feat in June 2026.

The Dutch charity “Spieren voor Spieren” is dedicated to helping children with muscle disorders. Funds are being raised for this worthy cause. Under the motto “Healthy muscles stand up for sick muscles,” athletes are supporting the foundation's goals through special initiatives.

And this is where Dutch professional windsurfer Bob van de Burgt comes in. The 24-year-old had come up with a challenge that would push his muscles to the limit. The plan was to cover a distance of 800 kilometers on a windsurf board across the Grevelingermeer in 24 hours.

Back in 2024, Bob had already made a name for himself with a challenge in which he covered around 400 kilometers. This year, he wanted to double that distance on a foil. The weather nearly threw a wrench in Bob’s plans, but in the end, he still came very close to his goal despite taking breaks. The GPS tracker recorded a total of around 762 kilometers. According to sponsor Point-7, Bob performed 475 jibes during the challenge and fell into the water only once.

The challenge received significant media coverage in the Netherlands. Many radio stations reported on Bob’s mission. As a result, donations poured in.

By June 15, Bob had already raised over 38,300 euros. You can view the current total here: www.sportenvoorspieren.nl/project/surfenvoorspieren
