PWA/WWT Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2026 - Update 1

Registration and opening ceremony

Westerland, September 25, 2026 - It’s that time of year again: the windsurf world cup is making a stop in Germany. Through October 4, women and men in the wave discipline, as well as men in the foil slalom, will be competing for points toward the overall world cup standings. In the men’s freestyle event, the world championship title will even be awarded on Sylt.

Registration took place today at Brandenburger Strand around noon, and starting at 4:00 p.m., all registered windsurfers were invited to attend the opening ceremony at the Kurmuschel.

The most important question: What will the wind be like? Right now, it looks like there will be two periods of stronger southeasterly winds this week - on Sunday and around the middle of the week. At the world cup spot off Westerland, a southeasterly wind blows diagonally offshore, so foil slalom should be possible then, and the freestyle contest has also been held far out off the beach in previous years.

Kickoff for the Sylt World Cup

For the wave event to get underway, the wind on the North Sea would need to be quite strong, blowing from the south through the west to the north. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen just yet, but the weather forecast could still change over the next nine days. So let’s keep our fingers crossed and see what kind of action the world cup will deliver on the North Sea island this year.
