2026er Customized Waveboards from Duotone

Ultra Grip D/LAB and Grip 3 D/LAB

How about a quad or a thruster? Today, Duotone is unveiling its 2026 waveboard range (three board lines), and here we take a look at the two new Ultra Grip and Grip 3 shapes, which the brand also describes as world cup waveboards.

At first glance: Three truly stylish color combinations adorn both board lines. A clean tone-on-tone look with minimalist graphic elements and translucent fabric layers. Undoubtedly Duotone’s best board design to date.

But what’s inside? Duotone refers to D/LAB as its highest-quality and lightest construction method, featuring a higher proportion of carbon fiber and Innegra fabric. “Customized” means that the boards are built in production just like custom-made models. Even the prototypes are manufactured this way in the factory - to ensure that all parameters are carried over 1:1 into mass production. For the core shape, Duotone relies on its own CAD software, which is designed to implement the complex 3D shaping more precisely than industry-standard software. But now to the boards:

Ultra Grip D/LAB
This board is available in all eight sizes (53, 61, 69, 76, 82, 88, 94, and 106 liters) as a quad (4-fin board). The four largest sizes (82, 88, 94, and 106 liters) are also available as thrusters (3-fin boards). The Ultra Grip is designed for high and powerful waves, but also for windy conditions at spots with less powerful waves.

Duotone recommends the tri-fin setup (thruster) for side-to-shore and onshore conditions if you prefer more radical turns on the wave and want the board to feel “looser.”

The Quad Setup is ideal for side-shore and side-offshore conditions, as well as spots with stronger currents. It offers better grip on the wave, especially for lighter riders and on smaller boards. The smaller board shapes are perfect for kids and lighter riders.

Grip 3 D/LAB
This thruster with a wider swallowtail is available in six sizes (77, 84, 91, 98, 107, and 118 liters) and is designed to perform well at typical European surf spots – from North Sea and Baltic Sea waves to swells as high as the logo.

Ultra Grip D/LAB and Grip 3 D/LAB
Both board lines follow a shape concept that uses a slightly wider profile (1–2 cm) to create a more rounded outline. This is designed to make the board feel like a board five liters larger during float & ride and when navigating whitewater, while the rounded outline allows it to ride like a board five liters smaller when catching waves.

A segmented rocker profile (3-stage rocker: upward curve at the nose starting from the front binding, a flatter section between the bindings, and moderate rocker at the tail with a tail kick) is designed to offer additional benefits (smooth transitions between bottom turns and cutbacks, tight top turns).

Duotone was also able to optimize the interplay between the curves (rocker, outline, and edges) using its new 3D software, devoted a great deal of time to testing, and incorporated these improvements into every one of its 2026 boards: "Every rocker and outline has sections with varying degrees of curvature. The same applies to the rail radius, which varies significantly. To prevent the three curves from working “against” each other, the top priority is to synchronize these curves. This means that in areas with a more pronounced rocker curve, the outline curve is also raised and the rails have increased curvature, and vice versa."

Prices for the boards range from €2,599 to €3,099, depending on the model and size. The boards are made to order only.
