Lightweight and waterproof 8K 360-degree camera

With the X4 Air model, Insta360 is introducing its lightest 8K 360° camera to date. The model weighs just 165 grams. New 1/1.8-inch sensors are designed to deliver significantly sharper 8K footage; as with the X5, the pixel area is 134% larger than that of the previous X4. And particularly important for use in water sports: The X4 Air is waterproof to a depth of 15 meters.

Why use 360-degree cameras?
These cameras capture the entire surroundings in a 360° panoramic view. When editing a video, you can later select the desired frame and freely adjust the viewing angle in any direction. The entire surroundings are captured by two lenses via two sensors at 8K resolution. Accordingly, the resolution decreases the closer you zoom in on the image section (entire sphere: 8K, hemisphere of one lens: 4K, etc.).

Insta360's 360-degree cameras feature excellent image stabilization, so you can mount them on sports equipment or your body and later produce videos that are virtually shake-free and horizontally stabilized. The X4 Air’s light weight makes it ideal for use with special mounts, such as on wingtips, windsurf rigs, or long sticks attached to a helmet or harness (where heavier cameras would disrupt the balance too much).

According to Insta360, the AdaptiveTone exposure algorithm is also designed to produce better results. It analyzes the light from each lens individually to balance brightness and color across the entire 360° image. This is intended to preserve details in both bright and dark areas of the image. Like the X5, the X4 Air also features interchangeable lenses with an ultra-hard optical coating that is said to be twice as drop-resistant as that of the X4.
