Windsurfing gear check for the cold season

Tip: Check all lines and the mast base

As the cold windsurfing days approach, it becomes even more important to check your gear. You can reduce the risk of long swims in cool water and air temperatures by taking a look at the usual wear-and-tear parts in good time.

Trim lines: When was the last time you replaced your trim lines? It’s best to replace them once before the colder half of the year to prevent tears. Don’t forget: also check the line at the boom head, which tends to wear through in the cleat.

Spare line: Always bring it with you - for example, wrapped around the extension and secured with knots.

Harness lines: It’s best to replace them before winter if they’ve been in use for a long time.

And very important: the cord at the mast base, or the power joint. Cracks in the cord can develop - even invisibly - at the points where the two screws pass through. It’s best to replace it annually and avoid using spare cords that have been in storage for a long time, since the PU material becomes harder and more brittle over time.

Have a great winter season!
