Court lifts building freeze

The Hanseatic city of Stade (Germany) is situated around 35 kilometres north-east of Hamburg on the western bank of the River Elbe. For several years now, investors, with the support of the city council, have been pushing ahead with plans for a surf park featuring artificial waves in Stade.

However, the plans met with little support from the German Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND). A provisional construction freeze was secured in October 2024. The district of Stade subsequently revised the development plans. Now, the Higher Administrative Court has definitively lifted the construction freeze. The planning permission has thus been reinstated. The surf park may now be built.
