Hanstholm - Middles
Magic Sunday on July 5, 2026
A photo recap of the Sunday in the first week of July, when the northwest of Denmark was hit by strong winds and once again lived up to its nickname, “Cold Hawaii.” Here are some windsurfing photos from Middles.
After a storm had already created huge waves on Friday morning (see Big Day Story for July 3), the strong wind returned in full force on Sunday after a relatively calm Saturday, blowing at 8–9 Beaufort from the west-northwest. Depending on your weight, you could achieve good performance with sail sizes between 3.0 and 4.0 square meters.
With so much wind, jumps were a rare sight; most riders focused on riding the waves. Things were already going pretty well at the Fischfabrik in the morning, and by noon the waves at Middles had some serious punch too - and the closer it got to evening, the better and longer the waves ran at both spots.
For me, this day marked the end of a week in Denmark with a good mix of windsurfing and wing foiling conditions, mostly in sunny weather.
If you’re interested in wing foiling, we’ve got a video from that morning to share with you.
