Mayo Mayhem 2025
Tough conditions at the contest in Ireland
The “Mayo Mayhem” wave contest, sponsored by RWE, once again lived up to its name with strong winds, high waves, and thrilling action along Ireland's rugged Atlantic coast.
The event retained its three-star status on the PWA/WWT World Tour and attracted not only Ireland’s best riders but also windsurfers from France, Germany, England, and Sweden to compete in the Pro, Amateur, and Women’s divisions.
The bold decision to postpone the event paid off. Storm Amy swept across the sea on Friday with gusts exceeding 80 knots - too wild to lure even the bravest out onto the water.
But in the evening, as 30 riders kicked off a stormy warm-up session, Mulranny Beach presented waves as high as the logo and 50-knot winds.
Saturday brought even more wind, as well as rain, and Mulranny Beach was chosen over Keel because of its ideal combination of reef and beach.
Nearly 50 participants hit the water in classic sideshore conditions and showed off big jumps and clean wave rides.
In the women’s division, Katie McAnena (IRL) secured the victory with her vertically initiated turns.
The amateur title went to Phil Hayden (IRL), who beat two strong French competitors with his high loops.
In the pro division, Timo Mullen (Northern Ireland, Duotone) prevailed over Dan Kealy (IRL, Witchcraft) in a close final with massive backloops.
