WWT / PWA Aloha Classic 2026
First results
21 October 2026 – The World Cup on Maui got off to an action-packed start on Tuesday. However, the conditions at this event – which is solely focused on wave riding – weren’t particularly good on this first day. The waves were often only waist-high. But at least the competition went ahead.
The men’s preliminary round was held, as were the Pro Junior Boys, Pro Junior Girls and Junior Boys categories, as well as a heat for the U15 boys.
Pro Junior Boys
Five teenagers competed in the Pro Junior Boys category, including 18-year-old Leon Maethner from Germany. Three heats were held, with all five competitors racing together in each one. Leon won Heat One, came fourth in Heat Two and finished third in Heat Three. This put him third in the overall standings behind Cesar Filippi and Ryu Noguchi from Japan.
Pro Junior Girls
In the Pro Junior Girls category, four competitors took to the water, each competing together in a single heat. Sarah Kenyon from Australia won Heat One, Sol Degrieck from Belgium won Heat Two and Natsuki Wasaka from Japan won Heat Three.
Overall, the Australian took the title in this class ahead of Degrieck and Wasaka.
Sarah Kenyon: "I’m super stoked to win. I’ve been training really hard as Starboard tack (wind from the right) isn’t what I sail at home, but it showed all that training was worth it. If you put in the time and effort, it helps things to go your way."
Junior Boys
There were seven competitors in the Junior Boys’ event, so the qualifying rounds were held in two groups. The final was won by Javier Escribano from Spain, ahead of Jason Papanikolaou and Raphael Dumesnil from France.
Under-15 Boys
Two riders took part here. One heat was held. Rocco Swift from England beat Akash Glickenhaus from the USA.
Pro Men
In the Pro Men class, a three-round qualifier had to be held to determine which unseeded riders would compete in the main field. Several of the Pro Juniors were also competing here. Although Leon Maethner won his first round, he was eliminated in round two. Veteran rider Brian Talma was also eliminated. Cesar Filippi, veteran Francisco Goya, the Czech rider Zdenek Maryzko and Antony Ruenes from France all made it through.
In the main field, Philip Köster will face Thomas Traversa, Francisco Goya and Michael Friedl in his first heat.
