WWT / PWA Aloha Classic 2026
Surf-style windsurfing in light winds
At the penultimate Wave World Cup of the year, three heats of the round of 16 were held on Maui.
The wind was light, but it was enough to drift out to sea. The waves then provided the necessary lift. By Maui’s high standards, however, the conditions so far have not been what one would have hoped for in this competition.
Marcilio Browne: “It was fun, it was better than it looked from the beach. It was still pretty light, we were all on our biggest equipment, but the waves helped and it was good we ran with long heats.”
Marcilio Browne delivered the best performance of the day. He scored 16 points, putting him well ahead of the Greek rider Gregory Stathopoulos, who, as the runner-up in the heat with 9.82 points, also qualified for the next round.
Antoine Martin also performed well, advancing to the next round with 13.15 points alongside the Italian Samuele Ferraro (7.77 points).
Moritz Mauch, competing for Spain, also made it through to the next round. He finished second in his heat with 9.42 points, behind French-born Morgan Noireaux (11.72 points).
In the next heat, Philip Köster will be fighting for a place in the quarter-finals. As things stand, there is no losers’ bracket in the elimination rounds. This means no one can afford to make any real mistakes. Anyone who doesn’t finish first or second in the four-man heats will be knocked out of the tournament.
The organisers are hoping to complete the Aloha Classic over the next four days. Whether they’ll succeed, however, remains to be seen.
“The forecast looks complicated, ” comments Morgan Noireaux, “but I‘m confident we will get some more heats done. I think there will be some windows. Once the wind is side shore, we can get out there in not much wind.”
