Freestyle windsurfing on the Grevelingenmeer

The freestyle discipline in windsurfing is as old as windsurfing itself. Over the years, this discipline has been given varying degrees of prominence in competitions. Modern freestyle on shortboards made its debut as a trial discipline at the World Cup in 1997 on Fuerteventura. Following that, there were years when as many as four Freestyle World Cups were held each year.

This year, there are only two World Cup events with correspondingly high prize money at which the freestyle discipline has taken place or is due to take place: Fuerteventura (women and men) and Sylt (men). The World Cup on Sylt runs from 25 September to 4 October 2026. The FPT events are a tier below.

Freestyle at Brouwersdam
From 7 to 11 October 2026, an event as part of the Freestyle Pro Tour will take place at Brouwersdam. Here, riders who have travelled to Sylt for the World Cup can take part in another competition straight afterwards on the Grevelingenmeer at Brouwersdam. The event offers 5,000 euros in prize money. As well as tow-in freestyle, there will also be ‘real’ windsurf freestyle. The first three days are set aside for this. This part of the programme will only take place if the wind forecast is favourable.
