Lena Schmäh is the GWA women’s runner-up in the Under-17 men’s category.
There were not enough entrants to hold a separate women’s race. The women had to compete against the men.
Lena Schmäh, one of the few women competing in the season finale of the California Windsurf Cup, enjoyed great success. In the overall U17 standings, Lena – who had already been windsurfing in a surfing club at primary school – finished second… in the men’s category.
Given her small stature, Lena’s placing in the men’s category is to be regarded as a particularly impressive achievement. This view was also shared by the judges of the BSPC Sports Awards at the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference.
Lena was awarded the prize for best female competitor at the California Windsurf Cup in Pelzerhaken and was honoured at the BSPC’s grand gala evening in Timmendorf. It is hoped that Lena’s success will motivate other women to take part in the Windsurf Cup in future, thereby enabling the organisation of dedicated women’s races.
