Tube rides at Cloudbreak

The World Surf League never fails to provide some stunning images. After the top riders had recently battled it out for world ranking points off the coast of Tahiti, the action moved on to Cloudbreak in Fiji.

Whilst veteran star Kelly Slater had caused a stir in Tahiti by knocking top rider Gabriel Medina out of the competition, Medina was able to show what he’s really made of in Fiji. He surfed a very long, deep barrel and scored a perfect ten for that ride. In the end, however, it wasn’t quite enough for victory. Medina finished second behind Cole Houshmand.

In the women’s event, Canada’s Erin Brooks took the title. Her final opponent, Isabella Nichols, had to withdraw due to an ankle injury. This meant Brooks won her second event in a row following the Tahiti Surf Pro.

The WSL circuit now moves on to the Trestles Pro in San Clemente, California.
