PWA World Cup Fuerteventura 2026 - Slalom X - Day 1

Matteo Iachino and Jenna Gibson dominate the Slalom X races on the first day

39 men and 14 women are competing in the Slalom X event on Fuerteventura, which is contested exclusively with a finne on varying courses.

The wind remained strong, but with significantly fewer waves than in previous days, allowing for two elimination rounds for the men and four races for the women.

With two wins, Italy's Matteo Iachino leads the men's overall standings, followed by France's Pierre Mortefon and Taty Frans from Bonaire.

Things went perfectly for Nico Prien from Kiel — he almost won the first final, but in the final meters, Matteo Iachino shot past him on the windward side. As a result, he currently sits in fourth place after the first day on the racetrack. The Dutchman Jordy Vonk rounds out the top 5.

With three wins in the four women’s full-fleet races, Britain’s Jenna Gibson has taken the lead in the overall standings.

She is followed by France’s Justine Lemeteyer, who won the day’s final race, ahead of her compatriot Mae Davico, Femke van der Veen of the Netherlands, and Bobbi-Lynn de Jong of Bonaire.

A maximum of 15 race laps will be held, and the competitors still have until Sunday to complete them. The wind forecast couldn't be better, so action-packed days lie ahead for all participants.
