Matteo Iachino and Jenna Gibson still in the lead; Nico Prien is closing the gap

Today, the riders got sausages. Not everyone liked the taste, but the top riders had no problem with it. Jump over the obstacle once, then jibe, and off to the finish line.

The morning was hazy at Sotavento Beach

That’s exactly what Matteo Iachino pulled off without a hitch today in the first final, which the Italian won ahead of Nico Prien. Matteo thus cemented his first-place finish in the overall standings, while the German’s second-place finish also secured him second place overall.

During the afternoon race session, however, both riders hit a snag on their way to the day’s second final. Nico got off to a slow start in the semifinal and had to work his way up from seventh place to fourth in order to qualify for the final. He succeeded.

Things were just as exciting for Matteo in the other semifinal, where – while in second place – he capsized at the second-to-last gybe mark and had to let several sailors pass him. On the final leg, however, he made up the ground and qualified for the final by finishing in third place.

Pierre Mortefon

Less than half an hour later, however, the race was won by reigning Slalom X World Champion Pierre Mortefon; Matteo Iachino took second place, and Nico Prien finished seventh. After the second day, these three form the leading trio.
