PWA World Cup Fuerteventura 2026 - Slalom X - Day 4
Justine Lemeteyer is the Slalom X world champion; Femke van der Veen and Jenna Gibson round out the podium
Justine Lemeteyer earned her world championship title the hard way today, securing it in four more women’s races. The Frenchwoman approached the week with extreme focus, despite facing wind gusts of up to 50 knots.
After starting the competition in second place, Justine Lemeteyer temporarily slipped to third, but on the final day –under what were certainly the most challenging conditions of the entire week – she fought her way back to the very top of the overall standings with four consecutive wins.
In the waves – some of which were as high as a person – that afternoon, she even won both final races by a wide margin. Victory was now hers for the taking and even while still in the water after crossing the finish line, she shook hands with the runner-up, Dutch competitor Femke van der Veen and her teammate Mae Davico.
Femke van der Veen also delivered a consistently strong performance, finishing second seven times and first once in the 15 races held, which secured the vice world champion title in the 2026 World Championships for the rider who had placed third the previous year.
Jenna Gibson led the overall standings during the first few days, but she was battling an infection that seemed to sap the British athlete’s strength at the most crucial moments. Still, she managed to finish second and third today, which secured her third place on the podium overall.
Sixteen-year-old Bobbi-Lynn de Jong from Bonaire and Mae Davico of France are tied for fourth place. This is a huge success for the lightweight De Jong, who, despite weighing half as much as 100-kilogram sailor Jordy Vonk, sails with a sail that is only 0.7 square meters smaller.

After two more men’s races – won first by Pierre Mortefon and then by Maciek Rutkowski – there were no changes in the top 5 of the overall standings.
With another second-place finish, Matteo Iachino remains on track for the world championship; he can put his seventh-place finish in the day’s final race behind him. However, the competition is tight for positions 3 through 5, with only 3.6 points separating the three riders.
The final results for the men's competition will be decided on Sunday, the last day of the Slalom X World Cup in Fuerteventura.
