Update #1 on the California Surf Cup on Sylt

The International German Windsurfing Championships is taking place on Sylt since July 28. Competitors will be vying for the German championship title in all disciplines through Sunday, although the forecast currently suggests there is little chance that a wave sailing competition will take place.

Foil slalom off the coast of Westerland

Fin slalom was scheduled for the very first day, but the wind was too inconsistent for a fair competition. Switching to foil slalom was out of the question, as Sylt’s notorious shorebreak once again lived up to its name - launching and landing with foil equipment would have been too dangerous, so day one ended without any results.

The first foil race took place on Wednesday

The first race finally got underway on Wednesday. Fabian Wolf won the foil race, which featured 25 participants, ahead of Sem Stroosma and Jesse Richter.

As is tradition, there was a small cash prize for the first race held, sponsored by LVM Insurance.

500 euros for Fabian Wolf, and 300 and 200 euros, respectively, for the other two riders. This covers at least part of their travel expenses, since regatta racing is an expensive hobby.
