PWA/WWT Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2026 - Update 4
Victory for Lennart Neubauer in freestyle. Matteo Iachino takes the lead in foil slalom.
30 September 2026 – It was an open-sea adventure that the freestylers embarked on on Wednesday morning to determine their winner.
Due to the wind direction, the competition took place so far off the coast of Sylt that the judges had to rely on drone footage to determine the result. This had already worked well in the preliminary rounds.
Whilst Dieter van der Eyken had already been confirmed as the first finalist, the second semi-final was to decide who would face Dieter in the final: Lennart Neubauer or Balz Müller. The 22-year-old Neubauer didn’t put a foot wrong and initially defeated Balz Müller.
However, the final between Dieter and Lennart had to be restarted because both drones were following the same rider. This was partly because all the competitors, including their caddies, were using Severne equipment. Lennart eventually came out on top here too. For the Belgian van der Eyken, second place is his second-best result since winning the world title in 2015.
In the foil slalom, Matteo Iachino moved up from second to first place. He sailed confidently and strategically in the fourth race to secure another second place, and in the fifth race he took more risks as the discard rule began to come into play. Iachino secured a clear victory and has thus taken the lead in the event standings.
Meanwhile, Fabian Wolf lies in second place, just 1.7 points behind, whilst Amado Vrieswijk has worked his way up to third place ahead of Pierre Mortefon.
