PWA/WWT Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2026 - Update 6

A dramatic race and a world title: Fabian Wolf finishes second. Lennart Neubauer is the freestyle world champion.

The Citroën Windsurf World Cup competitions concluded on Saturday. The only event remaining on Sunday is the prize-giving ceremony at around 12.30.

For Fabian Wolf, who had been leading the foil slalom until then, Saturday’s final elimination round turned into a drama. Up until that point, he had reached every final. Ironically, in the semi-final of the eighth race, Wolf was involved in a collision with Nico Prien, which cost him a place in the final. Matteo Iachino seized the opportunity. A third-place finish in the final was enough for him to snatch first place from Wolf.

The plan had actually been to hold one more slalom elimination. However, due to the combination of wind and current, the wind pressure was too weak.

Fabian Wolf: “Right now, it’s a mixture of pride and a touch of sadness. I can certainly be proud of myself for how I performed throughout the week. I was really in contention for the win right up until the very last race. Losing it like that at the end is, of course, a shame, and unfortunately I couldn’t do anything about it in the end. But that’s all part of it, and I think that from tomorrow onwards, the pride will outweigh the disappointment. The event was brilliant, and a big thank you to everyone who supported me here.”

In freestyle, Lennart Neubauer can celebrate yet another title. The double-elimination did not take place due to a lack of wind, so the result of the single-elimination stands. The season, comprising two events, was also particularly successful for Dieter van der Eyken. The freestyle veteran finished as runner-up in the world championships, whilst Yentel Caers, also from Belgium, had to settle for third place.

The wave discipline could not be held on Sylt this year due to a lack of wind. This is particularly disappointing for the women. They were unable to compete in any discipline on Sylt – partly as planned, partly due to the lack of wind.
