Tiree Wave Classic 2026
A Windsurf World Cup way up north
13 October 2026 – To find Tiree on the map, you have to let your gaze wander across the English Channel, northwards to Scotland. Located in the Hebrides, the island of Tiree lies approximately 170 kilometres north-west of Glasgow and 125 kilometres north of Ireland.
The island, which is just under 20 kilometres long, attracts visitors with its crystal-clear sea, plenty of wind and beautiful sandy beaches. And the Tiree Wave Classic has truly earned the ‘Classic’ in its name. The windsurfing event has been running for 42 years.
This remote corner of the world will be hosting some of the world’s best windsurfers until 16 October. Although the four-star World Cup ranks below the top-tier competitions, the location and the tight race in the overall standings are attracting more top riders to the Hebrides than one might normally expect.
A total of 23 riders have lined up in the men’s main field. Seventeen are British, but Marc Paré Rico, Philip Köster, Marino Gil Gherardi and Miguel Chapuis have also made their way to Tiree. Seven women are competing in the women’s event.
Alongside four British women, Frida and Emma Miron from Germany are competing. Justyna Sniady from Poland is also aiming to win here. However, riders such as Marcilio Browne, Bernd Roediger, Lina Erpenstein and Sarah-Quita Offringa are absent.
As a reminder: Marc Paré currently tops the men’s world rankings, just ahead of Philip Köster. Marcilio Browne is currently in third place. Lina Erpenstein leads the women’s rankings ahead of Maria Behrens and Marine Hunter.
Sarah-Quita Offringa is in fifth place. She missed the World Cup on Maui at the start of the year.
Although conditions in the run-up to the World Cup on Tiree were good, no main field competitions have been able to take place so far. However, the first results are in for the boys’ youth category. Three British competitors have secured the top three places.
Eddie Maclean won the single elimination. Peter Gobisch secured fourth place. Two further heats were held in the men’s amateur competitions.
